Martino, Ph.D. http://www.DrRussellsHealthAndWeightLossBlog.com Hitch-hiking on the ideas presented in the ASC Step One Training, (see the Wiki) and keying off an article titled Setting Up Your Workspace Efficiently by Rena Klingenberg I put together a 3 ring binder management system that has dramatically improved my overall organization and increased my effectiveness in; 1) seeing the overall picture of things; 2) identifying everything that needs to be done, and; 3) identifying the most important things and getting them on a Daily To Do List.
Following is a list of each tabbed section along with a brief description of how I see each of these sections. This is the order I have them in my binder titled Dr. Russell’s Health And Weight Loss Blog.Com, which is the name of my ASC site. There’s some overlap between several sections, but I decided it was better to be repetitive than to overlook some important idea… so I listed everything I could think of and here it is.
Tabbed Sections in the site binder include… Concept Overview Objective & Goals: This section is an executive summary of the entire site. I briefly describe; 1) the core message of my site; 2) briefly list each specific monetization strategy; 3) summarize precisely how I’ll get traffic; 4) Briefly but specifically describe my marketing plan, and; 5) make revenue projections based on all forms of planned income.
Site Design: The paper site map you create for your site goes here along with thoughts or ideas about the structure of your site. I have several site maps and diagrams and include diagrams on how my ASC site interfaces with other sites I own; diagrams detailing sales processes soon to be implemented; diagrams on how different marketing strategies interface and diagrams giving a visual of how everything connects with, relates to, or enhances everything else on the site.
Categories: A description of each category along with the rational for having that “specific” category plus general content ideas for each category, a brief summary of photo, audio and video ideas for each category and ideas for future categories PLUS off-the-cuff product ideas that may evolve from having a lot of high quality, premium content in a specific category. Content Ideas: This section contains a running 1, 2, 3 listing of specific ideas for future posts including possible article titles. Additionally I use this section to store reference articles and posts from other sites in my niche that I like for one reason or another. Marketing Strategy: A more detailed overview/summary of the entire marketing strategy along with marketing-related ideas I may decide to implement as the site develops.
Monetization Strategy: Specifics and details of exactly how you plan to generate revenue from the site. Here is where you flesh out the summary listed in the first tabbed section and go into specific detail explaining every way you intend to generate revenue with your site. Maximum Profit Joint Ventures: List every specific idea you have for a joint venture. Personally I LOVE my competition… in fact I expect competitors to contribute greatly to my 1 success by doing joint ventures that give me instant credibility and immediate access with their entire list… everyone profits. Newsletter Ideas: Just a list of thoughts and ideas I have regarding the newsletter you can subscribe to on my site. Content ideas, contest ideas, feature article ideas, continuing education ideas and so on. Just thinking about this kind of stuff gets your brain in gear. Press Releases: All press release related ideas go in this section. Podcasts: Ideas for doing audio and video podcasts along with information regarding podcast syndication and so on.
Offline Promotion Strategies: A list of ideas for offline promotion. My list includes a business card that advertises my blog and can be given away anywhere, anytime to just about anyone. It’s like a banner ad on a business card and it’s effective. My other offline strategies include guest appearances on radio; local speaking opportunities; possible newspaper advertisement for my blog, and more. Publishing Schedule: As described in ASC training. Images: Images help with SEO and make posts more interesting. This section is to jot down ideas for photos that fit your categories and for pairing images with posts. Thinking this out in advance makes posting easier as you proceed. Keyword Research: All keyword research goes in this section. Long-tail keyword phrases are great for post titles and reviewing keywords fires up ideas for new content. It’s useful to have everything together in the site binder.
Mind Maps & Brian Storms: Mind mapping is a great way to come up with ideas for practically anything. I put this tab in the binder to remind me to make “thinking outside the box” a regular part of my site development. I mind-map everything I can think of relating to any and every part of my site and I review it all every week or two.
Short Term 1 Year Goals: A detailed description of EXACTLY what you want your Internet business / blog to look like one year from today, including specific target goals for your site development, back links, daily traffic, the size of your list, joint ventures you’ll have initiated, products you’ll have created and so on. The more complete and detailed the better.
Long Term Goals: Write a detailed list of long-term goals regarding your site. Will it become a cash cow you keep? Will you sell it… what’s your target sales price and what do you need to do between now and then to make certain it’s worth that much? If your site becomes everything you ever dreamed of and then some… exactly what would that be? How much time would you spend on it? How much income will it produce? All these questions are valuable. Asking them gives you a different perspective on what you’re doing on a daily basis, for me… a better perspective. Income Potential/Calculator Games: This is a section to have fun with. 2 3 I love calculator games and like to see on paper exactly what can be created in dollars if certain publishing, list building, product development, joint ventures, etc. are effectively completed. Example: I have a non-ASC site almost complete and will soon be offering a $97 downloadable weight loss and health related product.
My initial income goal for this site, once my ASC blog is officially launched and I’m actively implementing social marketing strategies, is a very modest 3 sales per day, honestly I believe this is dramatically low… but a reasonable estimate for now. Do the math… $97 x 3 = $291 per day x 30 days/month = $8730 per month. Is this realistic??? Who knows… but 3 sales a day “seems” pretty low considering the power the ASC platform delivers and I know the product is great because I’ve sold several thousand in hard copy at more than double the price on the web already… Regardless… playing with the calculator is exciting and I find it helpful to look at the numbers anytime I get bogged down in technical details I’d rather not bother with. Wow… what if I do a really great job and end up making 5 or 7 or 9 or 17 sales a day…. and what about the SECOND and THIRD and FOURTH products… how will it look when this revenue starts flowing too?
Doing this helps me work through learning curves, technical confusion and helps me manage an extreme desire go faster when going slower, (for the moment), is the only possible alternative.
Niche Product Ideas: Develop product ideas that fill needs in your niche market. Do your research and find a conversation you’d like to enter and then come up with ideas for products that solve problems in that niche. Brainstorm product ideas, pick the one you think your niche will like best based on your research and make it happen. Keep a running log of product ideas. Thoughts & Observations: Write down what you think, what you learn, etc. This gives you some perspective as your site develops and gives you a safe place to dream… or to vent.
AND FINALLY… Master To Do List: This is actually the FIRST tab in my binder but I saved it for last one to talk about because things on your Master To Do List get there based on what you discover by reviewing each of the other sections in the binder.
Never throw out a To Do List. When you make a new one put in your binder right in front of the last one… that way you have a running log of all your activities and accomplishments. Reviewing this from time to time is good because it clearly documents your step-by-step progress and it can be very gratifying to see things moving forward.
There you have it, the complete explanation of The 3 Ring Binder System For Managing Your Blog. I hope you find this helpful and I hope you can use it to reach all your online goals and make your dreams come true. Russell J. Martino http://www.DrRussellsHealthAndWeightLossBlog.com
